The Dilly Dallies sing songs about life as parents and as children. Lives full of energy, curiosity, struggle, and love. It's not always easy being a parent and it's not always easy being a kid. But the experiences that both the parent and the child share make great song subjects. And that's where The Dilly Dallies come in.
Steve Slater found himself being a stay at home Dad, given his flexible musician schedule, this just made sense in their family. When his son was just a baby, Steve would sing him to sleep and play his ukulele for him. As the child grew he started writing songs about his son and their experiences together. Observing and writing music about everyday events, such as the number of questions his son would ask, or how everyday felt like a weekend. After Steve's son started preschool, it was clear that the next step in this musician/stay at home Dads life was to start a band and share the songs.
Through a mutual friend Steve was introduced to Jenn Ekman, who responded to a video that had been posted of Steve and his friend Matt Payne performing one of Steve's songs. Jenn happened to be exactly what Steve was looking for. A quality vocalist, who could write her own harmony parts and loved to sing. She has two great kids and one of them is only 7 days younger than Steve's son. She has a wonderful voice, which she has developed by singing in music theatre for many years.
The Dilly Dallies are now a band. One stay at home Mom and one stay at home Dad. They rehearse while their children run around and play. They have experienced all the good and bad parts of having children and love to sing about it. Enjoy the music, enjoy the children and enjoy being a parent. Time flies as they grow, so let's sing about it!
